Puka Beach in Boracay

This is one of the reasons we chose to stay overnight in Alta Vista de Boracay. Prior to our trip, Joie did some online research and found out that the hotel offers free tours at Puka Beach. It was already Joie’s second time in Boracay. And two of her "non-negotiables" for our Boracay trip are trying out parasailing and going to Puka Beach. It turns out these two became the highlights of our trip!

As soon as we checked-in, we already inquired about the Puka Beach tour. We were told that it’s just approximately a five-minute drive from the hotel. They offer free shuttle services for hotel guests. If I’m not mistaken, the shuttle leaves every 15 minutes. We left the hotel around 3:30 PM, and got back for the last trip back to the hotel around 5:30 PM. Suffice to say, we didn’t worry a single thing.

I mentioned in most of my Boracay posts that I was initially reluctant to visit Boracay primarily because I felt like it wasn’t my cup of tea. I have always seen it as this crowded beach for party animals. I’m a boring human being who hates crowded places so that alone put Boracay in my not-so-eager-to-go-there list. But as soon as I set foot in Boracay, I finally understood why everybody loves it. Yes, it is still a bit crowded (even if we came in September) and too commercialized by my own standards, but it’s undeniably beautiful. But it still isn’t my kind of beach. Imagine how happy the lola in me was when I saw Puka Beach for the first time. I told myself, "Well, this is my kind of beach, bitch!" Bwahaha! The blog posts regarding this hidden paradise are so enticing. Fortunately, Puka Beach didn’t disappoint! Seeing it in real life is 100 times better and more magical than looking at countless of beautiful photos scattered throughout the internet!

It’s not crowded. The view is very relaxing. The silence is actually deafening. All we could hear were the sound of the strong waves and the occasional laughter from the very few people who were also in the beach. It’s relatively deserted so my husband had the beach all by himself!

I read that it’s called Puka Beach because of the many Puka shells that can be found along the shoreline of the beach. So yeah, the sand may not be as white and as fine as what Boracay is known for, but it’s still gorgeous and breathtaking in its own right.

There is a small store (I think they also serve food) in the beach. My gut feel says it’s part of Alta Vista de Boracay because the people manning the store was the one who told us when the shuttle was about to pick us up.

After inhaling the beauty of the beach, the next thing we did was to look for the infamous PUKA sign. If you read blogs about Puka Beach, then you would surely not miss it. It’s like your “I have been to Puka Beach” proof. Haha!

O, eto pa ang ibang proofs. Baka hindi kayo maniwala e. Harharhar! :p

It may be boring for some, but we surely had a great time at Puka Beach. It was quite nice to get away for a while from the frenzy Boracay crowd. I mentioned from my Alta Vista de Boracay review that although I loved their facilities and services, I was quite disappointed with their food. But I guess the trip to Puka Beach compensated my disappointment! =)

  1. Puka Beach is the quiet and more beautiful part of Boracay. Super quiet nga lang siguro pag gabi kasi walang mga establishments at pang daytour lang sya talaga. When we went to Boracay in 2010, dyan din ako nag-enjoy ng husto saka sa snorkeling kahit nakainom ako ng mdaming tubig alat. Haha. Naalala ko, yung mga kapatid ko nag-aaya sa Boracay hindi pa kasi sila nakapunta. :)

  3. Nice post and pictures as well.. yes Puka Beach is one of the best beaches in Boracay..its not as fine as the sand of the white beach but the crack shells that combines with the white sand makes the Puka Beach unique.. :) this beach is perfect for a couple who wants to have a relaxing beach ambiance :) .. But, I really look for a relaxing and peaceful place and there I find The Orient Beach Boracay, its affordable, 5 mins ride to D'mall, its not hassle anyway because they have a free shuttle Service going to D'mall. It was also a Newly Opened Hotel, you can find great deals in many sites. Plus they serve really great Breakfast. it was also closer to the famous White Beach, 5mins and 3mins/Puka Beach ride from hotel :) Land and Sea Sports will also complete your vacation :)
