We celebrated my mom’s 50th birthday last Wednesday. After so many years, nothing has really changed. She’s still the most unadventurous in the family. I suggested we try out some of the restaurants in Makati for a change. It would also have been more accessible since I am working in Ayala. But she opted to spend it in Robinson’s Place Ermita. And out of all the restaurants that she still has to try, she chose Tang City again, the same place we celebrated Mother’s Day.
I am not a big fan of soups but my dad usually starts the meal with a hot soup.
I love century eggs. Whenever my dad would order cold cuts in Chinese restaurants, the century eggs are always reserved for me. We have already tried their Seeweed with Century Eggs before but we enjoyed it as much as we did the first time. I love the fact that the strong flavor of the eggs compliments the subtle taste and crunch of the seeweeds. It is served with sweet vinegar but the dish alone is good even without it.
My brother wanted his favorite Spicy Spareribs. Mama has to watch out for her intake of spicy foods so we had the luxury to munch all of it. This dish also comes with sweet vinegar.
My mom followed the waiter’s suggestion to try out their Tempura. I was amazed at how big their prawns were. I hate those restaurants that serve big tempura only to find out that 80% of what you’re eating is only flour. I enjoyed Tang City’s tempura because of the little sweetness in their batter.
I didn’t have a lot of say in ordering. But since I was paying dinner, I insisted we have dumplings. (Nahiya sila sakin haha!)
Papa ordered two sets of Yang Chow which were surprisingly consumed by four people. Brown rice tea was also served for Php60/pot.
Thanks to Jeff who accompanied me to RP since he was grabbing some stuff for his house. Thanks Chiu! :)
