Supplier Review: Irene Manigo

I am a certified late bloomer. When I’m at home, there are times that I don’t even bother to comb my hair. So when a friend once saw me using a blush-on, she exclaimed with great terror thinking that her friend might have been taken away by the aliens and the person she was with was already a clone. So that same friend took on the job of helping me choose a makeup artist for my wedding. I sent inquiries to a lot of HMUA only to be surprised at how their services cost. Everybody told me that I needed to have a trial makeup. I was really extra careful in making a choice because it is my day after all.

Aubrey’s first rule: Never trust a MUA’s portfolio especially if the pictures look too good to be true. We were once in a bridal fair when she whispered after seeing some nearly-perfect pictures, “Magaling ba siyang mag make-up o magaling mag photoshop?” After going around the venue for three times, she narrowed down the choices to two. The first one was discarded right away because she was quite hard to deal with. Hahaha!

I didn’t notice Irene’s booth in the bridal fair. Actually, I didn’t even bother to look at her portfolio. Aubrey started to lecture me while I was checking Irene’s work. She told me that Irene is really good with eyebrows, which according to the makeup guru is really important. Trusting the judgment of the expert, I found myself sitting on a high chair with brushes stroking on my face. And then Aubrey told Irene, “Irene galingan mo. Maganda na yan e. Pero pag panget ang makeup, may tendency magmukhang drag!”

Irene’s professionalism is impeccable. During our prenuptial shoot, she arrived really early because I told her that we were only allowed to use the venue for three hours. Unfortunately, Fully Booked did not allow us to enter the premises earlier to have my makeup done because our contact failed to inform the guards. Because of this, Irene was forced to do my makeup inside a car. Throughout our "ordeal", she remained graceful and kept on assuring me that she’s fine.

Irene and her hairdresser Ava also came earlier than their call time on our wedding day. They both worked non-stop making sure that we finish on time. I told her that I am sleep-deprived because of the wedding preparations and the demands of work. She told me not to worry. She was like a fairy godmother as she waves her magic wand (errr brushes) making sure that there would not be a single sign of a frazzled bride-to-be.

Irene and Ava also made my mother and mother-in-law look beautiful on that day. But my favorite of all is how she made my 80-year old grandmother look 10 years younger. :)
