KDrama Review: Grandpas Over Flowers Investigation Team

I finished watching Grandpas Over Flowers Investigation Team a couple of weeks ago. This was once again recommended by my friend, Mitch. She knew that I am such a cry baby so she keeps on recommending Korean dramas that are either on the rom-com or light drama category.

Grandpas Over Flowers Investigation Team is a story of four young police officers who are at the prime of their careers. They are considered the cream of the crop, but each one has an Achilles’ Heel. They were put together to form a team, along with one female police officer, to solve the mystery behind the recent disappearances of some well-known people. During one of their missions, three of the four guys suddenly turned into 70-year old men! The fact that one of them didn’t “transform” was intriguing enough to make us so hooked to this series. Saying that this KDrama is funny would be a big understatement. It’s hilarious! My husband and I didn’t mind the horrible traffic situation in Metro Manila because this series kept us in good company. It only has 12 episodes so we were a bit sad when we were nearing the finale.

The team solves one crime per episode, but each leads to their major case – finding out who the culprit is behind their transformation. I’m not sure if it’s just because I am watching too much CSI, but the cases are way too easy for me to figure out. But I still enjoyed it. Even if the premise is somehow similar to the hit anime, Detective Conan, Grandpas Over Flowers Investigation Team is still worth watching.

I could not stop laughing with how crazy the grandfathers were. Even the supporting casts are amazingly funny. There are also some light moments. And of course, a Korean drama is not complete without the love angle. This has got to be the most unique love triangle ever. There are a lot of times when my heart would flutter out of giddiness. The love story of Park Jung-Woo (Kim Hee-Cheol of Super Junior) and Jung Eun-Ji (Lee Cho-Hee) is very refreshing to watch.

If you’re a fan of detective stories, comedy or anything romantic, I bet you would like this. It’s funny yet very heartwarming. I love how something so funny can convey the message of teamwork, friendship and love. And the ending was just epic! =)
