Restaurant Review: UCC Cafe at Robinsons Manila

After hearing mass on my 30th birthday, my husband and I decided to celebrate by having lunch together. I was feeling under the weather and my appetite decided to go on hiatus. But I didn't let these things ruin my birthday date with ze hubby. So when he asked where I wanted to eat, I told him that I want to go somewhere we hadn't tried before. And since we've almost wiped out all the restaurants in Robinsons Manila, our choices were a bit limited. To cut the long story short, we had my birthday celebration at UCC Café.

Because of a medical procedure that was done to me on the eve of my birthday, I felt like throwing up everything I put in my mouth. (Again, I am not yet preggers, owkei?!) Because of this, I opted to just have something light for lunch. My choice: Chicken Teriyaki Salad!

A bed of fresh and crispy lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers are topped with pineapple chunks and corn kernels. I never felt like I was having a boring lunch because of the very vibrant colors on my plate. I am used to eating salad with grilled chicken, but it was my first time to have it with chicken teriyaki. I was initially a bit doubtful thinking that it wouldn’t be a match. But I was proven wrong. The sweet, salty and tangy chicken teriyaki took a normal salad plate a notch higher. The salad dressing was also very tasty. Its slightly pungent taste added kick to the salad.

I was having a hard time choosing between the Chicken Teriyaki Salad and the Fried Chicken Spaghetti. My husband was kind enough to get both. Hihi! Bertdey ko e! :p

We had the choice between having tomato and cream-based spaghetti. Boyet opted to have the latter. This creamy pasta dish has bacon and mushroom. My husband and I agreed that it was a bit bland so I requested for some Parmesan cheese. It’s just amazing how cheese can change the ball game! The spaghetti tasted so much better with the addition of the Parmesan cheese. The pasta may fall short of our expectations, but the chicken compensated for the pasta’s lack of solid flavors. The chicken is crispy on the outside but very moist at its core. And more importantly, it’s packed with so much flavors! You will never go wrong with chicken and spaghetti.

Aside from the hearty meal, I appreciated how the waiting staff attended to us. Each table has a buzzer. A press on the button will signal a member of the waiting staff. And then voila! No need to get stressed by raising your hand to get the waiter’s attention. =)
