Book Review: Operation: Break the Casanova’s Heart by Aly Almario

Operation: Break the Casanova’s Heart is my second read for 2014. It was also my third and fourth and fifth read!!! Yes, I do read my books again but not immediately after I finished reading it. This book broke that rule! As soon as I flipped the last page of the book, I had to reread my favorite chapters. Then the following day, I read it again from the start. Ganoon ako ka-adik! HARHARHAR!

I initially thought it was just patterned with John Tucker Must Die. But while reading it, it gave me the same feeling after watching John Tucker Must Die, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Ten Things I Hate About You, and anything that stars KathNiel and KimXi! In short, kilig to the maximum level! I told my husband that all my hormones were spiking up and I felt like my ovaries are exploding because of too much kilig. I never imagined that a book worth PHP175 can have that effect on me.

Although there were instances when the plot becomes a bit unbelievable or predictable, the author has managed to compensate these with the book’s tender moments. I love how she described the transformation of each character specifically the main ones. The plain-looking girl is transformed to attract the school’s #1 heart breaker. And the bad boy turns into a love stricken puppy. If you don’t wish to have someone like Stephen after reading this book, then something is terribly wrong with you. Hahaha.

Even the back stories played crucial parts to the plot. The reference to poetry and music definitely appealed to me. I also have to say that the ending is quite different from the usual romance novels I've read before. I anticipated that the book was about to end but then something significant would happen. ‘Yung tipong, “Akala ko tapos na?!” But in a good way, of course! Plus, most romance novels usually end when the main characters become an item. But this book goes beyond the typical ending. You have to read it to understand.

This book has all the ingredients of a telenovela that will keep you hooked. I was amazed as to how the author managed to make me imagine what I was reading like I was watching a romantic movie/telenovela. If you want to feel like a 16-year-old once again or if you just need to have a dose of kilig, you have to read Operation: Break the Casanova’s Heart. A 4.6/5 goodreads rating is not a joke!
