Restaurant Review: Yasu Restaurant

In our attempt to go to the remaining restaurants at Robinsons Place Manila which we haven’t tried yet, we decided to check out Yasu Restaurant. It wasn’t the first time we attempted to give it a try. The place is a bit small so it easily gets crowded during lunch time. But one Sunday afternoon, we got a little lucky when we scored a table for two because a customer just left as we were about to enter the restaurant.

I am not sure if there are other branches, but Yasu at Robinsons Place Manila is relatively new. It serves affordable Japanese food. I was still recovering from the “Japanese food high” brought by our impromptu lunch at Sai-Bachi because in all honesty, it was such a tough act to follow.

I opted to have a bowl of beef gyudon – thin strips of savory beef on top of rice. What I love most about Yasu’s gyudon is the melts-in-your-mouth texture of the beef. Unlike other Japanese restaurants that serve rubbery beef gyudon, Yasu’s version is very tender. Sa iba kasi parang beef chewing gum! Nakaka-lock jaw! :p I also love that there is enough fat which made the dish zestier and kept the beef from being dry. I have eaten other versions of beef gyudon that are too fatty, and I end up giving up on my bowl instead of inhaling all the cholesterol. :p  To add “fire” to my gyudon, I decided to put some chili powder.

Boyet had Tonkatsu Set which came with rice and a bowl of miso soup.




The tonkatsu was just so-so. Although I appreciate that the deep-fried pork is not oily, there was nothing special about it. The sauce on the side didn’t help much at all. Between the tonkatsu and beef gyudon, my vote definitely goes to the latter.
