Restaurant Review: Conti’s Pastry Shop & Restaurant at Serendra

It was one of our Thursday date nights when Boyet and I decided to go back to Serendra after our very filling experiences at Mamou and Saboten. This time, we decided to try Conti’s Pastry Shop & Restaurant. It was my first time to dine in here although I have always been a fan of Conti’s mainly because their Mango Bravo is to die for.

I love our Thursday date nights because restaurants are less crowded during this day. And because we can’t use our car before 7PM, spending time with my husband is the best way to kill time. It’s like hitting two birds with one stone.

Anyway, it was hard for me to choose what to get for dinner because I wanted to try out everything. And since Conti’s is well-known for their cakes, I wanted to immediately jump to desserts. Hihi. So after thoroughly flipping through the pages of the menu, I decided to have the American Grilled Ribs.

I loved the smoky flavor of the ribs. Plus, it’s fork-tender too! I noticed that a lot of ribs from different restaurants taste alike. I am not sure if it’s because they use the same bottled barbecue sauce, but this one has very distinct flavors. Its sweetness is not overpowering.

It comes with buttered vegetables and your choice of mashed potato, garlic rice or steamed rice. I was initially disappointed that the mashed potato wasn’t served with a gravy. But my first bite of the mashed potato proved that there is no need for gravy. It’s perfectly-seasoned, and I loved that there are a few big chunks of potato. I don’t really like those super mashed potatoes. It’s like baby food. Nyaha. :p

I told Boyet that a friend of our friend highly recommends Conti’s Baked Salmon. Since my husband loves fish, it wasn’t hard for me to convince him to give it a try.

Served with paella rice and buttered vegetables is a slab of pink salmon baked to perfection. I don’t really like the rich flavors of salmon, but this one is an exception. I love the battle between the natural flavors of the salmon and the strong garlicky flavor. I am not sure if it’s because of the toppings, but you can’t deny that there are tons of garlic in this dish. My husband loved it! =)

Since we are taking home a slice of Mango Bravo for Mama, we decided to finish our meal with a slice of blueberry cheesecake.

My husband does not like blueberry cheesecakes because he dislikes the hint of sourness from the blueberries and the “weird” taste of cream cheese. He can’t understand that the cream cheese is not weird, he is. Hihi. But he had a change of heart after having this blueberry cheesecake. The crust is not too thick and all the flavors are not too heavy. I have to say that this is one of the best blueberry cheesecakes I have ever tasted. =)
