Restaurant Review: Trying Out Something New at Sbarro

I still remember when Sbarro along Ayala Ave. opened a few years ago, my officemates and I would have lunch there every single freakin’ Friday. We had to endure the long queue which sometimes extends down until the ground floor. And during these times, none of us dared to whine about our ordeal. How can we? If Sbarro served you with pasta and pizza, would you still have the energy to complain about falling in line? Me? I don’t think so.

Sbarro has always been one of my favorites. If I want a hearty serving of pizza and pasta, Sbarro is always on my list. Fortunately, its Robinsons Manila branch is more spacious than their Ayala branch. Every time I had to make an ATM withdrawal (there is an ATM beside it), I would always watch kuya who effortlessly flips and throws the pizza dough. It’s as if his every move is calculated. And then, I would continue to watch with marvel because he could finish putting all the toppings together in the blink of an eye.

My favorites are Chicago Deep Dish, Chicago White, Pinwheel and Baked Ziti. For years, I just ate these four items without having the guts to try something else. I somehow felt like I would be turning my back on a friend. Ok fine, the food-friend comparison is OA! =))

Because I was still full when we visited Sbarro, I decided to skip those hefty pizza slices. When the server asked me what I wanted to have, I just pointed to a certain pizza which is thinner than the usual deep dish pizzas that I grew to love over the years.

The server told me that it’s Supreme Pizza. Hindi ako sanay kumain ng payat na pizza sa Sbarro! Nyahaha! Though I still favor my old favorites, this one is good too. There was a decent serving of protein-overload stuff on my slice. The diced white onion and green bell pepper added crunch and a hint of sweetness. But sorry Supreme, my heart still belongs to Chicago Deep Dish and Chicago White. :)

My husband is the weirdest person ever. He goes to a burger restaurant and eats fried chicken. And this time, he goes to a place that serves pizza and pasta and gets a rice meal. He was planning to get the same rice meal that he had on our last visit, but he forgot what it was. Fortunately, there was a sign with a picture of a rice meal which was directly in front of his line of sight.

He got the Asian Pork Steak hoping that it was the same rice meal that he enjoyed. Ayun, sablay! Hindi daw 'yun ang nakain niya dati! =)) The meat was very tender. The sauce is sweet and salty with a hint of acidity. Nung tinikman ko, parang paksiw na Bistek Tagalog na adobo. Something like that, but definitely in a good way.

  1. Hahaha medyo boring yung ibang pizza flavors nila compared to the awesome deepdishes and the white pizza! Love the baked ziti too!
