A Breeze of Good Deeds #42: #100HappyDays

If you haven’t heard of this, you’re probably living in a cave. :p

I started seeing posts of #100HappyDays in Instagram last week from two of my former office mates. The theme is pretty straightforward. You just need to post a photo of anything that makes you happy. And the challenge is to do it for 100 days. I initially didn’t want to join the bandwagon. As a matter of fact, I was cynical at first. Proof to that is a conversation I had with my office mate, Abby.

Abby: Bakit hindi ka nag 100 Happy Days?
Me: Huh?
Abby: HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Of course, I was just being my usual sarcastic self. Hindi naman kasi siya required talaga! At wala talaga akong nakuhang memo! =)) But since it appears to be so much fun, I decided to give it a try.

Abby: Ayoko! Lagi akong malungkot.
Me: Duh!
Me: Isa pang duh! Kaya nga challenge e. Kung madali yan, hindi na yan challenge.
Abby: E ano namang i-po-post ko?
Me: Ahhhmmm. Kahit ano?! Food!
Abby: Hahahaha! May point ka, teh!

That same day, we decided to join the #100HappyDays Challenge. I even convinced my other friend, Joie to join too. I decided to include the words HAPPY or HAPPINESS in my captions. Para naman mukhang pinag-isipan ko talaga. HARHARHAR! But sooner or later, I might start using GLAD, GLADNESS, JOY, JOYOUS, JOYFUL, BLISSFUL etc. Kapag paulit-ulit, takbo kay Mr. Thesaurus! :p

day1 Why Chichay and Pedro can't end up together. Name of the source withheld. :p Crazy friends make me happy. #100happydays #day1

day2 #Frozen and these kiddos make me happy. #100happydays #day2

day3 Finding happiness in the small things that remind you of your wonderful childhood... #100happydays #day3 #chocolates #cloud9

day4 Happy are those who laugh even at the corniest joke. Expletives have been removed haha! @abzkoi #100happydays #day4

day5 Find happiness in succeeding after being beaten countless of times. The same thing applies in life. Fight, don't let life beat you. #100happydays #day5

day6 Walking in faith leads to gratefulness. A grateful heart is a happy heart. :) #100happydays #day6 #ashwednesday

For me, the objective of this challenge is personal. It’s not to brag how happy you are or how wonderful your life has become. Because let’s admit that in the world of social media, everybody is somehow competing with each other. Yes, it does help in connecting people. Yet it also makes other people feel that they are being left behind. Why am I still single at 30? How come all my friends are having kids while I am not? When will I go to Paris just like <insert friend’s name here>? That former classmate used to just copy my homework back in school, how did he get so successful? Why am I so out of the race? If all of us will have the same thinking, it will just defeat the purpose of the challenge. I believe that whoever came up with this wants us to redefine our typical idea of happiness. He/she probably wants us to open up our hearts to even the smallest thing that can make us happy – a view of sunshine, a yummy breakfast, a chat with an old friend, a relationship that has changed your life… There is definitely a long list of things to be happy about. We just need to open our eyes and our hearts to appreciate these things.

See my journey in finding happiness by following me on Instagram. If I survive 100 days, the remaining 265 days will just be a piece of cake! :)
