Where To Go In Bicol: Misibis Bay

For the first time in my “traveling history”, our Cebu Pacific flight to Bicol was on time! We were in the airport very early in the morning for our 7:50 AM flight. You can’t blame me for being cynical because all my past flights with CebuPac were delayed so I was really ecstatic when we boarded on time. We were scheduled to arrive at Legazpi by 8:50 AM, but our plane landed 15 minutes earlier.

We immediately saw a guy holding a Misibis Bay sign board. Before you all go “WOW! Misibis Bay! Ang yaman ni Je,” just like what everybody kept on saying to me after finding out that I went there, we only availed of the day tour package. Even with a voucher, I don’t think I’m willing to spend that much for an overnight stay at Misibis Bay. Hindi maatim ng kuripot ‘kong bulsa. The day tour package rate of PHP3,418/pax was already a stretch for us. Joie and I convinced ourselves that we're probably not coming back to Bicol so we might as well try as many things as we can during our stay. Kaya pikit-mata kaming nagbayad, all for the sake of checking out what’s Misibis Bay is really made of.

The van which brought us to Misibis Bay was very comfortable. It was the perfect setup given the travel time and the bumpy roads ahead. The guest officers handed each of us complimentary bottled water as soon as we were seated. Travel time from the airport to Misibis Bay is more than an hour. Because of our early morning flight, I couldn't help dozing off once in a while. We were with other guests in the van who were all quiet so I really didn't mind the travel time. We were expecting a boat ride because that's what we read from other blogs. But I guess they already did something to eliminate that. So after more than an hour of mostly rough road, we arrived at the luxurious Misibis Bay!

Courteous and very warm staff members soon greeted us with a necklace (made from some leaves I don’t know, sorry :|), welcome drinks and cold hand towel. Nag-expect ako ng kropek, sa ibang blogs na nabasa ko kasi, meron! :p

While freshening up at the reception area, two dancers started to perform outside to welcome us. I then started to realize why Misibis Bay gained such popularity after just being around for only a few years. Our first five minutes in the resort was the perfect example of Filipino hospitality.

Two staff members carried our bags to the part of the resort where the locker rooms are located. Minus point for Misibis Bay: we had to ask Jeff and Boyet to put our bags in the boys’ locker room. According to the attendant, the only remaining lockers in the girls’ locker room are those that don’t have uhmmm… errrrr… locks. We didn’t want to risk losing our things, so we settled with sharing with the boys.

While waiting for our tour guide for the eco-park tour (that on a separate post), we roamed around to check out the resort.

After the eco-park tour and while waiting for lunch to be served, we checked out the recreation area.

We were the only people inside the room so we had all the chance to goof around! If kids can play KINECT, then adults can also use this!

While the three of us were busy making a fool out of ourselves, hubby was outside having a billiards match with… uhmmm… himself!

After lunch, we rested for a while then started with the water activities. Most activities are already part of the day tour package. A lot of funny things happened during the couple of hours we were at the beach so I decided to allot a separate post for that. At around 2:30 PM, we left the beach to try out the pools.

This specific pool is quite a long stretch. I don't think it can ever get really crowded even on peak season. Beach towels (which are very big and heavy) were also provided. There's also a bar on the other pool, but nobody was manning it. Night shift siguro ang bar. :p

While dipped into the very cold pool, hubby and I started talking about our Misibis Bay experience. Part of me feels that the resort is a bit overrated given the amount we shelled out. But then I realized that we are not in the position to say this because we haven’t seen the rooms/villas. I read a lot of blogs that speak of their luxurious experiences, and all of them stayed at Misibis Bay overnight. I was just happy that I had a glimpse of paradise even for a few hours. Plus, their customer service was indeed impeccable! We never really felt that we were discriminated just because we were only day tour guests.

By 3:30 PM, we rushed out of the pool to take a bath. We were told beforehand that our van will leave at exactly 5 PM.

The shower rooms are very clean and well-maintained. Basic toiletries and bath towels were provided. I know that checked-in guests are given with Acca Kappa toiletries, but I was more than happy with Crabtree & Evelyn! The body wash was very rejuvenating. The shampoo and conditioner both smell so good.

Overall, our Misibis Bay experience was really good. It makes me so proud that such a beautiful place with world-class service exists here in our country. It was indeed a good way to jumpstart our Bicol adventure!

  3. Our entire Misibis Bay Experience was ok. Ok naman. Not really parang WOW nasa paradise kami but ok na nakakarelax :D We purchased a discount coupon our 3 days and 2 nights stay there. So I think that was about 40k and if you divided it by 4 then about 10k per person? I think not bad narin compared sa day tour na 3k plus other expenses na pinagastos sa inyo ng MIsibis Bay? :D
