Je Tries to Cook: Leche Gulaman

I opened our pantry and was surprised to see a pack of gulaman waving at me. I panicked when I found out from the label that it’s expiring in a couple of days. So technically, this recipe is just my attempt to salvage a gulaman that’s about to expire.

I didn’t even have the slightest idea that this is called Leche Gulaman. I just eat this famous Filipino dessert each time I see it in fiestas without trying to find out its name. I only learned it's called Leche Gulaman when I GOOGLEd it as I need a title for this post.

INGREDIENTS:

DSC_0177 1 pack of Alsa Gulaman (unflavored)
1 small can of evaporated milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
4 tbsp whole kernel corn
3 tbsp sugar

DIRECTIONS:

1. Following the package directions, dissolve the powdered gelatin in a pot with ¾ cup water. Over very low heat, boil the gulaman until the mixture is free of lumps.

2. Stir in milk, vanilla and sugar.

3. Put corn in the mold. You can use any fruits available. My mom used to put fruit cocktails.

4. Pour in the gulaman mixture. Let it cool for 15 minutes, then refrigerate.

Now, you can give this to your worst enemy then say, “LECHE Gulaman for you!” Make sure to put emphasis on the word in bold. HAHAHA!!!

Seriously, this is one plain and easy dessert. Adding fun to your cooking experience is the fact that you can use different colors of gulaman and put them in various shapes of molds. Kaya pala sikat ‘to sa fiesta, sisiw lang gawin e! :p
