Restaurant Review: Kanin Club

After our zipline adventure, lunch at Mushroom Burger and close encounters with the animals at Residence Inn, we decided to call it a day. But since we still had a few more hours to spare, I suggested we go to Paseo de Sta. Rosa. I didn’t know what to expect to the place but I already had one thing in my mind. I’m talking about the very famous Kanin Club. I’ve read so many positive reviews about the place which made me so eager to try it out. I also read that it’s always jam-packed especially on weekends so I was praying we could get some decent seats since our driver needed to be back in Manila before 7 p.m.

We arrived at Paseo de Sta. Rosa a little before 4 p.m. so it was a bit unusual to have rice at that time of the day. But since it was my birthday treat, nobody objected. Hehe!

The interior is very cozy and the room speaks very well of the Filipino culture.

We had a nice chat while waiting for our orders. I was trying to play with my camera when it caught some extra-terrestrial figure.

Hahahahaha! ^_^

Kanin Club is well-known for Filipino dishes with a bit of a twist. They make sure that customers get the very best gastronomic treat. Everybody loved the Sinangag na Sinigang. Sinigang is a very famous Filipino dish characterized by its sour flavor usually brought about by tamarind. It can be chicken or fish but I love pork sinigang the most. On the other hand, sinangag is our version of fried rice. So imagine when you put these two. After my first bite of the dish, I knew right away why Kanin Club is such a hit. I loved munching at the vegetable tempura especially the kangkong.

We also got Loaded Fried Rice: fried rice stacked up with sausage, scrambled egg, crab meat, pork, ham and topped with lots of spring onions and roasted garlic. They weren’t kidding when they said it was loaded. Who needs a viand when you have this on your table?

Kanin Club’s Vegetarian Delight is banana blossoms, mushroom and tofu sautéed in oyster sauce. It’s like having a vegetable dish and soup in one bowl.

I loved that their lemon chicken wasn’t too sour and too oily. Some restaurants offer breaded food by serving 90% breading. But the breading of their chicken wasn’t thick giving you a generous amount of the flavorful chicken on every bite.

I’ve seen every table with one common dish. Bloggers also rave about Kanin Club’s Crispy Dinuguan: deep-fried pork in stew of pork blood. I am not a big fan of dinuguan but every bite of this dish was a delight. This one is so addicting. We just stopped eating when we all started to feel a little dizzy.

We were already full that we almost forgot that Erlie ordered for a dessert. She said she was already full when we asked her to finish the dinuguan. She said that she’d eat it if she had ordered desserts to clean her palates. All of us suddenly remembered that she did order for dessert. She almost jumped off her seat when we reminded her. She had no choice but to finish the dinuguan while waiting for Turon KC.

Turon is banana wrapped in paper roll deep-fried with brown sugar. This one beats all the turon I’ve tasted. It’s like eating an ice-less halo-halo. Turon KC has ube (purple yam), coconut strips and sweet mongo beans topped with sesame seeds.
