Restaurant Review: The Old Spaghetti House at SM Manila

Published on August 23, 2009

Boyet was a few minutes late for the 1:15 screening of UP so we decided to have a quick bite at The Old Spaghetti House since it is one of the closest restaurants to the cinemas. I have been to TOSH a few times already. I am not a fan because I don’t think there is anything extraordinary with their pasta dishes and their servings are relatively small. Service is also slow, at least for the one located in RP. I don’t remember when was the last time I was at SM Manila so I was a bit amazed at how things have changed, particularly the addition of The Old Spaghetti House.

I already had lunch before I left home so I skipped rice and pasta meals. I settled for their appetizers instead. I chose their appetizer basket consisting of onion rings, calamari and chicken strips. There is something so addicting with this that’s why I could not stop gobbling. I also loved the dip that comes with it. I had to ask for additional dip in which the waiting staff politely obliged. The calamari is crunchy on the outside but the squid is so tender. There is nothing more horrible than chewing an elastic calamari. The onion rings and chicken bits are fried to perfection.

Since Boyet skipped lunch at home, he went for a rice meal. He ordered for Stir Fried Beef with Mushroom. He seemed to have liked it as he was able to finish everything.

I was craving for some desserts. They have the usual cheesecakes but I wanted to try something new.

Their chocolate truffle cake looks so sweet at first glance but I was wrong. The chewy chocolate at the center is not too sweet. I have to say that this is a must-try. The pie is decorated with some caramel sauce adding a distinct flavor to it. I was asking Boyet to try some because I would have wanted him to taste the pie but he refused because of his cough. That is why I had to finish the whole plate. Hehe!
