Baguio Trip: Day 1

After we checked our unit at the Ina Mansion, we went to the receptionist to ask where the nearest restaurant is. They gave us a bunch of options, some of which can be found in Manila. Since it was already 2 p.m., we chose Solibao Restaurant which is in Burnham Park. Jeff suggested we have soup to warm our stomachs. All agreed to try out their bulalo!

We also had their inihaw platter which has a generous serving of liempo, fish, squid, green mango strips, salted egg, onion rings and tomato. I love this dish mainly because it comes well with their spiced vinegar and bagoong isda.

I am so thrilled to see how they serve their rice. They use our native “rice cooker”. They are so cute!

Food was great. Service was good though the crew was a little laid back. If I’m not mistaken, we paid more or less Php800 for lunch.

After lunch, we went to Burnham Park’s tiangge which had a P10 entrance fee. We just strayed around and I got the chance to take some photos. I am just not sure what competition these were part of.

We then tried boating! It costs Php100 for a 30-minute ride. It costs an additional Php20 of you ask someone to row the boat for you. Jeff and Boyet insisted that they could do it. A few minutes later and approximately five feet away from the starting point, we started going around in circles. I decided that an additional twenty bucks is better than getting all the shame, and the possibility of getting all soaked up in water.

After the boat ride, we went to check out SM Baguio. We were planning to watch You Changed My Life but we were already late for the screening. Imagine, we went to Baguio to watch a movie? We were just all curious how their cinemas look like. :p Instead of watching, we just sat on the balcony while letting the time pass.

We started walking back to Session Road to look for something to eat. We already had Café by the Ruins in mind but we couldn’t find it. It was already late so we didn’t have the luxury to look for it further. We just tried out Star Café along Session Road. I read some positive reviews about this Chinese restaurant. The place looks a little old and most of waiters are old. Hehe! I was still full so I just shared Boyet’s lomien.

A funny anecdote...

Manong Waiter: Anong order nyo?
Joie: Kuya, ano pong difference ng Shanghai Lumpia at Shanghai Lumpia Rice?
Manong Waiter: (frowning and yawning) Yung Shanghai Lumpia, alam mo ung lumpiang shanghai? Ayun, lumpia. Yung Shanghai Lumpia Rice, lumpia na may rice. (looks irritated)
Joie: Ahhhh!
Me: (confused... talked to herself... yung isa lumpia lang, ung isa meal kaya may rice)

A funnier anecdote...

Manong Waiter: Ikaw ano sayo?
Jeff: Ano po yung 7 ingredients soup?
Manong Waiter: Soup yan na may 7 ingredients. May carrots, blah blah blah...
Jeff: (astonished)
Manong Waiter: Alam mo yan???
Jeff: Hindi.
Manong Waiter: Di pala e. Baka di mo magustuhan yan.

Hahahahahaha!

We had a lot of plans for day 1 but the long 7-hour travel time kicked all of us to hibernation.
